Psalms of Praise

Psalms > Info on Psalms > Classifying Psalms > Categories of Psalms

Praise psalms come in two categories:  Descriptive Praise and Declarative Praise. Psalms that do not necessarily fit into one of these two categories were categorized as general praise psalms or Halal psalms.

Psalms of Descriptive Praise are psalms that describe God in terms of His person and His works.  These type of psalms describe who God is and the way He works.

Psalms of Declarative Praise are psalms where God is praised for a specific answer to prayer. For example, psalm 40 is a declarative praise psalm. God is praised for an answer to a prayer. Jonah 2 is a psalm of declarative praise, also.
